The interpreter translates what someone says for an audience not speaking his or her language. Interpreters usually work in pair in cabins, with headsets to listen to what has to be translated and switch places about every fifteen to twenty minutes. Simultaneous Interpreting occurs generally from a language A to a language B (which is most often the mother language), but it happens that some interpreters are what is called A-A : they translate from their language A to their language B and vice versa.
